Stage 1 Drought Restrictions in Effect
June 17, 2022
STWA, the Corporation's wholesale water provider, and the City of Corpus Christi, the region's water supplier, recently enacted Stage 1 of their Drought Contingency Plans.
Stage 1 is typically implemented when the combined percentage of Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir falls below 40%. In a proactive step, based on National Weather Service forecast, Corpus Christi Water (City of Corpus Chrisi leadership) implemented Stage 1 despite the current total LCC/CCR capacity being at 42%.
These restrictions should be implemented immediately by the Corporation's customers:
- Irrigation systems can be used once a week for outdoor watering and should be limited to the hours before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
- Hand watering is allowed on any day using a shut off nozzle. Again, this should be done before l 0 a.m. and after 6 p.m. to avoid evaporation.
- Foundations can be watered once a week with a hose or drip irrigation.
- Customers should practice efficient use of water by:
- preventing water run-off on streets and sidewalks,
- checking for water leaks around your home, and
- washing full loads in the clothes washer and dishwasher.
NWSC members and/or customers are expected to follow these restrictions until conditions return to an adequate water supply for CC Water and STWA. The NWSC Board and staff are requesting your support to conserve water in order to have sufficient supplies for the future.
